Community invited to ice cream social

They'll be serving something cold on a warm summer's night this August. The San Tomas Neighborhood Association is inviting the public to come out to Jack Fischer Park—at the corner of Abbott Avenue and Pollard Road—on Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. to eat some cool ice cream and meet neighbors.

As part of National Night Out, the association will sponsor its fourth annual Ice Cream Social, which has been the neighborhood association's most popular event, said San Tomas Neighborhood Association President Andrew Hereth.

National Night Out is held as a partnership between communities and law-enforcement agencies around the country. It is designed to heighten crime and drug awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and develop partnerships between the community and law enforcement.

More than 34 million people in 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide participated in the 2003 National Night Out campaign.

Coldwell Banker helps raise a roof

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage launched its sixth annual Habitat for Humanity fundraising raffle campaign in July. This year's theme is "Building the Framework of the American Dream."

The fundraising campaign will run through Aug. 27, and winners will be notified Sept. 1 by phone. Last year, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage raised more than $135,000 for Habitat for Humanity. Tickets for the raffle are $2. There will be more than 40 raffle prizes, including a $5,000 cash grand prize; a four-day, three-night Las Vegas trip; a weeklong stay in a luxury condo in Maui; a $500 Best Buy gift certificate; Giants and A's tickets; a Canon 3.2-megapixel digital camera; a baseball autographed by Oakland A's star Barry Zito; and dinner for two at Wente Vineyards restaurant.
