The Campbell Crush, a 10 and under "B" girls fast pitch softball team, recently capped an excellent summer season by winning an ASA "B" Invitational tournament at Twin Creeks in Sunnyvale.
It was the fifth first-place trophy earned by the Crush during seven tournaments played in June, July and August.
In the recent Twin Creeks tourney, Aug. 7-8, the Crush scored a 2-0 victory over the Pajaro Valley Tremblers for the title. The shutout avenged a championship game loss to the Tremblers the week before at the Strawberry Jam tournament in Watsonville.
Amanda Llerena pitched all seven innings in the win over the Tremblers. The Crush displayed solid defense, including a fine fly ball catch by Elle Koshiyama.
Other players who helped the Crush put together a 33-3-1 record this summer were Sarina Araujo, Catherine Callaway, Madeline Damore, Courtney Jordan, Lujane Mussadi, Megan Paras, Nicole Ramirez, Sarah Spina and Kylie von Richter.The team was coached by Scott Araujo, Ron Spina and Brian Paras. Jen Araujo and Cindy Spina were the team's managers.
The Crush won two events in June, a Twin Creeks tourney and an NSA Qualifier at Manteca. In July, the Crush took first place at the ASA "B" Sizzle Invitational in Ceres and the ASA "A" Summer Sizzle in Sparks, Nev.
The Crush's competition included teams from Santa Clara, Almaden, Calaveras County, Tracy, San Bruno, Cupertino, Half Moon Bay, Salinas, East San Jose, San Ramon, Castro Valley, San Anselmo, Concord, Hollister and Nevada.
