Softball sign-ups

The Campbell Girls Fastpitch Softball organization will hold sign-ups for the 2005 recreational season on Nov. 10, 5:30­8:30 p.m., Nov. 20, 10 a.m.­2 p.m., and Dec. 11, 10 a.m.­2 p.m., in the cafeteria at Forest Hill Elementary School in San Jose. The league is open to girls ages 5­16.

Quito sign-ups

Registration for the Quito Little League spring 2005 season is under way. Online registration is mandatory for players ages 5­12. Tryouts will be held in January with games to be played from March to June. For more information visit www.QuitoLL.org.


Boys lacrosse

The West Valley Redhawks will hold boys lacrosse tryouts for the upcoming 2005 spring season on Nov. 13 and 14 and Jan. 8, 9:30 a.m.­noon, at Argonaut School in Saratoga.

Tryouts will be held Nov. 13 for the pups program (grades 5­6); Nov. 14 for the juniors (grades 7­8); and Jan. 8 for the junior varsity (grades 9­10). The tryout fee of $25 includes lunch.

Turkey Trot

The second annual Turkey Trot 5K run, sponsored by the Los Gatos­Saratoga Observation Nursery School, will be held Nov. 14, 11 a.m.­2 p.m., at Vasona Park.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. on race day and the cost for the run is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 6­15 (children 5 and under run free). The family fun run begins at 11 a.m. and the kids fun run starts at noon.

Baseball camps

West Valley College will host a series of camps this fall on its home diamond on the school's Saratoga campus, featuring instruction from professional and collegiate players.

Pitching, hitting and defensive fundamentals will be stressed at the camps set for Nov. 14, 21 and 28. The cost is $50 per camp and players of all ages are welcome. Camp hours are 10 a.m.­noon (pitching), 12:30­2:30 p.m. (hitting) and 3­5 p.m. (defense). For more information, contact Mike Dorsa at 408.623.4212 or mdorsa@hotmail.com.


SCU hosts baseball camp for youth

The Santa Clara University baseball coaching staff will host a series of clinics throughout November and December for players of all ages.

Players in grades 10­12 can participate in a prospect camp on Nov. 26­28 at Bellomy Field, the SCU practice facility. The cost is $260 per child and players will be put through a variety of exercises, then evaluated based on their performances. Players will then be split into teams to play games.

A pitching and catching clinic for players ages 13­18 will be held in two different sessions—Dec. 4 and 5, 10 a.m.­noon each day—in the cage area at Buck Shaw Stadium. The cost is $75 per session or $125 for both sessions. Santa Clara pitching coach Mike Zirelli and catching coach Matt Mueller will direct the clinics.

A holiday kids camp for children ages 6­12 will be held Dec. 20­23 in two sessions—9 a.m.­noon and 1­4 p.m. The cost is $100 per session or $175 for both sessions. The camp will focus on basic fundamentals.
