Chamber looking
for raffle goodies
The Campbell Chamber of Commerce Toy Program is right around the corner, Dec. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Campbell Community Center Orchard City Hall banquet room, 1 W. Campbell Ave.
The chamber seeks donations that can be raffled off. It is asking businesses for a raffle basket or a check; its members will be happy to do the shopping and arrange the raffle baskets.
All proceeds raised through the raffle will go to aid low-income children in Campbell.
For more information call the Campbell Chamber of Commerce at 408.378.6252. Raffle items can be dropped off at the office, 1628 W. Campbell Ave., in the Kirkwood Shopping Plaza.
Whole Foods helps
eliminate hunger
Whole Foods Market wants to help end hunger and is asking shoppers to pitch in.
Through Dec. 31, the food chain holds a "Stop Hunger Now" campaign at its 19 Northern California stores, including the Campbell market in the Hamilton Plaza off Bascom Avenue.
Customers can purchase pre-packed "Stop Hunger Now" bags of groceries, which the market will donate to local food banks. Each $6.99 grocery bag will include items such as spaghetti, marinara sauce, tuna fish, crackers and jam.
"Whole Foods Market is dedicated to eradicating hunger and being active participants in each community it serves," said Anthony Gilmore, president of Whole Foods Market's Northern California Region. "By donating to local food banks, Whole Foods Market has the opportunity to reaffirm this commitment and help those less fortunate during the holiday season."
Upcoming movie benefit for Hakone
Proceeds from the premier screening of Memoirs of a Geisha in Silicon Valley will benefit the Hakone Estate and Garden. Last January, film crews and big-name actors took over Hakone Gardens to film scenes for the Sony Pictures movie. Memoirs of a Geisha, based on a popular novel of the same name, is the story of Sayuri, an impoverished Japanese girl played by Ziyi Zhang, who is sold to a geisha house in Kyoto during World War II. The premier screening is at Camera 7 Cinemas, 1875 S. Bascom Ave, Campbell, on Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $40 for Hakone Foundation members and $45 for nonmembers. Tickets include food, beverages and the movie. For more information, call 408.741.4977.
