New tire and wheel store in Campbell is easy to spot

Decorated with bright neon lights in the windows and sparkling rims on display, the new California Wheels in Campbell can be seen from a distance at night.

After operating for 10 years on S. Capitol Avenue in San Jose, owner Tommy Phillips decided to open an additional location in Campbell on Winchester Boulevard. The tire and service shop, which opened in November 2007, offers much more than the average tire service.

"We customize vehicles," Phillips said.

California Wheels is located in the newly remodeled building near the popular Michi Sushi on Winchester Boulevard.

"We get a lot of traffic from people traveling from Campbell to Saratoga to Los Gatos on Winchester," Phillips said.

After the sun goes down, California Wheels is even easier to spot.

"[The showroom] really stands out well at night; we put neon tubing in all the windows so if you drive by in the evening, it will be glowing from the street," Phillips said.

Beyond the beaming windows, more than 200 wheels and rims are on display in the showroom. According to Phillips, California Wheels keeps hundreds of tires in stock.

Custom wheel and tire packages along with replacement tires are available to give cars a sporty look while increasing the cars' handling and performance.

Brakes and suspension are also maintained in the store's service department.

"We specialize in alignments for luxury cars and sports cars," Phillips added. BMWs, Cadillac Escalades and Porsches fill the four service bays. California Wheels also specializes in high-performance customized tires and rims ranging from 20 to 30 inches.

They also offer grills, sideboards, running boards and other car accessories. Even with all of the additions to choose from, "the main focus is after-market wheels and tires," Phillips said.
