Host families
The San Jose Giants, the local Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, is seeking host families for players for the 2008 season that runs April 1 through Sept. 10. Host families provide a player with a room, and the Giants provide families with season tickets and parking passes for all of the club's games at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The team also hosts picnics for the families and other events, which this year will include a trip to Fresno to see the Triple A Grizzlies play.

Shooting Stars
The West Valley Shooting Stars, a girls Class 3 under-11 soccer team, is looking for players (born Aug. 1, 1996, to July 31, 1997). Interested players should contact head coach DuWayne Costa at 408.406.0974 or team manager Jessie Ikeda at 408.489.2649 or jikeda@pacbell.net.
Coed tee ball
Registration is under way for the Sherman Oaks Community Center tee ball league for boys and girls ages 5-8. Games and practices are on Saturdays at Hamann Park, 2750 Westfield Ave. The season runs from April 5 to May 10, and the cost is $28. For more information, call 408.277.5680.
Stick Starz
Stick Starz, a field hockey program for boys and girls ages 8-11 sponsored by the U.S. Field Hockey Association, will hold practices on Saturdays on March 22 and 29 and April 5, 12, 19 and 26, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Presentation High School.
