    Little League

    Local leagues in Little League District 44 have announced early registration for the 2000 spring season. Players must live within league boundaries and must present a birth certificate and proof of residency to enroll.

    Tri-Cities Pacific-- Signups to age 16 will be held Saturdays, Jan. 8 and 15, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and Thursday, Jan. 13, 6-9 p.m., at the Rancho Rinconada Rec building, at Chelmsford Drive and Bollinger.     Sunnyvale Serra-- (includes southern Sunnyvale, northern Cupertino and eastern Los Altos) Signups for players to age 14 on Saturday Jan. 8 and 15, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Wednesday, Jan. 12, 6-9 p.m., at Serra Park Rec Building, 730 The Dalles. For more information, call 408.345.9800.

    Challenger Division-- Signups for physically and mentally disabled youngsters, ages 7-17, may be made at any District 44 league during signup dates listed. Registration is free. Play is from March to June. For more information, call Ken or Anneliese Jones at 408.615.8807.

    Pony Baseball

    The Sunnyvale-Cupertino Pony Baseball program is accepting registration for players ages 7-18. The league also needs adult volunteers to become board members. For more information, call 408.245.7669.

    Officials needed

    The Northwest YMCA of Cupertino is looking for officials for the upcoming winter basketball league season. Officials will be paid $6-7 per hour, depending upon experience. The YMCA offers extensive training, so no experience is necessary.

    League play runs Jan. 8-March 4, and officials must commit to the entire season. Games are played on Saturdays, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
