The Cupertino CourierEducation BriefParents need grad night donations With holiday parties just now fading from memory, local parents are planning yet another shindig: the Monta Vista High School Senior All Night Party. This event is still five months away, but parents in charge of planning are appealing to the community for food and prize donations to keep the costs for students down. "The emphasis is on keeping the kids off the streets and safe," said co-chairperson Dennis Whittaker. "We as parents want to keep them safe and sound." The party is on June 11. It starts at 9 p.m. and finishes between 5:30 and 6 a.m. the next day. Parents volunteer to work shifts throughout the night, serving food, working the game tables and passing out prizes. Seniors pay $85 each for admission, but Whittaker said that won't cover the entire cost of the $36,000 party. The committee is still $7,000 short. "We are in urgent need of keeping tickets at an affordable price," he said. The committee appealed to the Chamber of Commerce last month for the additional money and is accepting additional donations from the community at large. Whittaker said the committee is looking for donations of food for the evening, as well as any new items "that their own children would be glad to receive." He said items for college-bound seniors, such as clock radios, mountain bikes, sleeping bags or even plane tickets to get home for Christmas, are welcome. Businesses and individuals are also encouraged to sponsor dinner tables, game booths and entertainment. Donations are tax-deductible. Send checks to Monta Vista SANP, 21840 McClellan Road, Cupertino, 95014, or contact Whittaker at 255-3212.
