The Cupertino CourierSheriff's ReportThe following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's westside substation. Drunk in Public--Dec. 31, 8:13 p.m., corner of Bollinger Road and De Anza Boulevard. A deputy observed a suspect hitting a crosswalk pole. The officer contacted the suspect and concluded that he was under the influence of alcohol in a public place, and he could not take care of himself or others. Burglary--Dec. 31, 12:25 p.m., parking lot at 20875 Valley Green Drive. The victim said he parked and locked his vehicle in the carport at the rear of the apartment buildings. Upon returning to the vehicle, he found a small window panel of the right rear door broken. An unknown suspect removed a CD changer from the rear compartment of the vehicle. The dashboard of the vehicle had been pried open and the dash tape deck removed. It was found damaged on the floor board. Marks were observed around the keyhole on the right front door. Six prints were submitted into evidence. Commercial Burglary--Dec. 31, 11:15 a.m, 99 Ranch Market. The suspect entered the store and filled three plastic shopping bags with food items. The suspect used three bags he had obtained from a prior trip to the store. After filling the bags, the suspect exited the store without paying for the merchandise even though he possessed the money to do so. A records check showed the suspect had been convicted and served jail time for a prior theft in 1997. Strong Arm Burglary--Dec. 30, 11:45 a.m., corner of Alves Drive and Beardon Avenue. The victim was walking home from the grocery store on Bandley Drive and Stevens Creek Boulevard. When she reached the corner of Alves and Beardon, she turned right to go to her apartment. The suspect approached her from the front and grabbed hold of her purse. The suspect yanked hard enough to cause the victim to fall to the ground. The strap broke and the victim lost the purse. She sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.
