Sheriff's Report
The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.
Auto Burglary--Jan. 11, 8:40 a.m., 10000 block of Alpine Drive. An unknown suspect smashed out the rear window of a vehicle parked in a carport. The suspect took a gym bag containing several items, including a DVD player.
Personal ID Information: Improper Use--Jan. 9, 7:30 p.m., 18000 block of Starrett Court. The victim said a credit card was opened in his name without his authorization in October 2001. The account was opened using the victim's Social Security number. A transfer amount of $500 was charged against the account. There are no suspects identified at this time.
Residential Burglary--Jan. 9, 4:50 p.m., 21000 block of Columbus Ave. Unknown suspects pried the wood frame from a door that leads from the side yard of a house to its garage. Apparently, no property was taken during the break-in.
Petty Theft of Automated Teller Machine Cards--Jan. 9, 2:30 p.m., 23000 block of Cristo Rey Drive. A victim from Santa Clara thought two ATM cards were taken from his wallet, which was left in his vehicle. The suspect only took the ATM cards, leaving the wallet, which contained several credit cards. Several other items in the vehicle were not taken.
Burglary--Jan. 9, 1:10 p.m., 20000 block of Pacifica Drive. The suspect broke into a residence when the victim was out of the country. The only items taken were jewelry. The suspect pried open a rear bedroom window to gain entry. No physical evidence was found and there are no identified suspects.
Drunk in Public--Jan. 8, 11:50 p.m., 12000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. Local campus security requested assistance from the sheriff's office to pursue a suspect who was detained for being drunk in public. She ran from security to an apartment complex, removed her shirt and began screaming and knocking on doors at the complex. She was apprehended without incident and booked into the main jail.
Burglary--Jan. 7, 4:30 p.m., 10000 block of N. Wolfe Road. Two suspects attempted to conceal a large quantity of clothing inside a department store plastic bag. They walked out of the store without paying for the merchandise and were confronted outside. They were escorted back to the security office and later booked into the main jail. The total value of attempted theft was $1,825.
Auto Burglary--Jan. 6, 2:45 p.m., 19000 block of Homestead Road. The victim returned to his car, which was parked in a parking lot, and found the passenger window had been broken. A black vinyl bag was taken, which contained property estimated to be worth $230.
Bank Robbery--Jan. 4, 12:30 p.m., 10000 block of N. Wolfe Road. Sheriffs responded to a bank robbery in progress. The suspect used a demand note saying he had a weapon in his possession and demanding large bills. The suspect fled prior to the sheriff's arrival. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male 5 feet 7 inches tall, 175 to 200 pounds. He was well-groomed, with dark hair and was wearing a light blue, long-sleeve shirt with dark pants. The loss to the bank was estimated at $3,000.
Grand Theft--Jan. 3, 12:30 p.m., 10000 block of Bubb Road. An unknown suspect took two boxes of computer chips from a caged area in a warehouse. Only 13 people had keys to the area--two of them are no longer working at the company. The total value of loss is approximately $310,000.
Attempted Residential Burglary--Jan. 1, 5 p.m., 19000 block of Price Avenue. The victim said his wife woke him at 5 a.m. when she heard a strange noise outside their home. The husband confronted a white male on the front porch attempting to open the front door. The husband held the suspect at gunpoint until the suspect ran westbound down Price Avenue. The suspect had a key ring with numerous keys he had been using to try to open the door.
Burglary-Grand Theft--Jan. 1, 2 p.m., 1000 block of November Drive. An unknown suspect entered a residence and took two purses and a wallet. There were no signs of forced entry, and the total value of loss was $625.
Commercial Burglary--Jan. 1, 8:10 a.m., 19000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. The front window of a liquor store was broken out and the suspect(s) removed an ATM from the store.
