    Sports Briefs

    Mats host Pioneers

    Local rivals will meet on Friday night when the Monta Vista boys basketball team hosts Cupertino for a battle in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. Teams will tip off Friday at 7:30 p.m.

    In other local El Camino Division action on Friday, Homestead visits Santa Clara at 7:30 p.m.

    Lacrosse Camp

    Stanford coach Joe Christie will host a lacrosse camp April 8-11 for beginner to intermediate players ages 8-14.

    Christie, a teacher at Redwood Middle School, will team with Redwood teacher and athletic director Brian Senior to put on the camp in Saratoga.

    Team Needs Players

    The King's Head Marauders, a social rugby club based in Campbell, are looking for players for the coming season. Team members come from all over the greater San Jose area and are of all ages and experience levels.

    Club members practice each Sunday at John D. Morgan Park and meet each Wednesday evening at the King's Head, both in Campbell.

    Volleyball Signups

    The U.S. League is holding early registration for the 2002 spring season, which will run from April 17 through June 8 at Los Gatos High School.

    The league is open to players ages 8-14, and the fee is $95 per player. The cost includes instruction, games, a uniform T-shirt and equipment.
