    Courier names new editor

    By Dale Bryant

Jason Baker has been named editor of The Cupertino Courier. Eric Johnson, general manager of Silicon Valley Community Newspapers, has served as interim editor since last August.

"We've been searching for a long time for someone with a real passion for community journalism to take over as editor," Johnson said. "Jason has a good sense of what a community newspaper needs to be, and I think readers will be pleased with some of the changes he has planned, including more neighborhood, business and school coverage.

Baker, a graduate of West Texas A&M University, worked for two years as a general assignment reporter for the Amarillo Globe-News in Amarillo, Texas. He also worked at The Courier's sister newspaper, the Saratoga News, where he primarily covered school, police and business news.

He left the Saratoga News last fall when he moved to Seattle to be closer to his family. But it wasn't long before he started thinking about what he was leaving behind.

"I quickly realized my heart was in community journalism. It wasn't long before we started making plans to return to this area."

Baker and his wife, Laurel, now live in Sunnyvale.
