Sheriff's Report
The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.
Forgery--Jan. 18, 4 p.m., 20000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. The suspect wrote a check for the purchase of a wig. The witness called the bank to verify the check and it was identified as being stolen. The suspect signed the name of the victim on the check and fled prior to the arrival of the sheriff.
Residential Burglary--Jan 18, 3:45 p.m., 18000 block of Newsome Avenue. An unknown suspect pushed open the front window that leads to one of the victim's bedrooms. The suspect took several items, including jewelry and a checkbook, and kicked in one of the bedroom doors.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle--Jan. 18, 11:55 p.m., Corner of Tilson and Tantau Avenue. A sheriff's located a vehicle parked on Tilson with its hazards on. A check of the license plate indicated the vehicle as stolen. The vehicle had been abandoned and the stereo had been removed from the dashboard. The San Jose Police confirmed the vehicle was stolen and was towed and stored as evidence.
Petty Theft--Jan. 18, 1 p.m., 20000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. Security at a local grocery store observed the suspect concealing several cold medicine items in her purse. Security then saw her leave the store without any attempt to pay for the items. The suspect was stopped outside of the store and place under citizen's arrest. The suspect was cited and released for the attempted theft.
Residential Burglary--Jan. 18, 6:10 p.m., 600 block of Miller Avenue. When both victims arrived at their home, they discovered someone had entered the residence and took jewelry and coins. The front door and all windows were locked and no forcible entry was found anywhere in the house. It was determined that the suspect entered through an unlocked sliding glass door, which the sheriff attempted to lift prints from.
Petty Theft--Jan. 20, 7:10 p.m., 10000 block of N. Wolfe Road. A suspect entered a store and placed six items in a bag from another store, exiting without attempting to pay for them. The suspect admitted to taking the items when confronted outside by an employee of the store.
Auto Burglary--Jan. 21, 11:45 a.m., 10000 Mello Place. The victim said his vehicle was parked in the street in front of his residence. When he returned to it, he discovered the front driver's side door was open and the stereo had been removed from the dashboard. It appeared that the suspect used a coat hanger or similar device to gain entry into the vehicle. There were no suspects and no physical evidence at the time of the report.
