    Athletes Honored

Former Stanford University and San Jose State football coach John Ralston was on hand to pass out the awards when the Palo Club of Palo Alto honored local scholar athletes at a banquet Jan. 28 at the Palo Alto Elks Club.

Athletes from 20 mid-peninsula high schools were recognized, including: Scott Mueller and Ben Reynolds of Cupertino; Esteban Carbajal of Fremont; Garren Strong of Homestead; Sean Imai and Paul Niedamyer of Lynbrook; and Ryan Katz and Drew Rogers of Monta Vista.

Ralston, also a former NFL coach for the Denver Broncos, is a Palo Club member.

    Lacrosse Camp

Stanford coach Joe Christie will host a lacrosse camp April 8-11 for beginner to intermediate players ages 8-14.

Christie, a teacher at Redwood Middle School, will team with Redwood teacher and athletic director Brian Senior to put on the camp in Saratoga.

For information, call the Saratoga Community Center at 408.868.1248.

    Giants Need Homes

The San Jose Giants, a Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, is looking for local families to take in their players this season.

The search is currently on for host families for the 2002 season, which runs April through August. Linda Pereira of the Giants needs to find enough families for the players by early March.

Host families provide a player with a room, and the Giants provide season tickets and parking passes for all of the club's games at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The team also hosts picnics for the families and sponsors annual trip to a San Francisco Giants game at Pac Bell Park.

Call Pereira at 408.297.1435, ext. 19.
