Good Samaritan Hospital welcomes its Senior Friends

Good Samaritan Hospital, at 2425 Samaritan Drive at the San Jose/Los Gatos border, encourages all interested local senior citizens in the West Valley area to join its chapter of the National Association of Senior Friends, a nonprofit hospital-based health and wellness program open to anyone 50 and older. The seniors in Good Sam's growing group take part in months filled with activities, outings and informational programs. Some are free; others have small fees. *End of Life Issues Series. These educational forums are geared toward helping healthcare workers, caregivers and senior citizens themselves better understand various issues related to the end of life. On Feb. 21, elder law specialist Doris Hawks Esq., presents "Advance Care Planning." On March 21, Dr. Elizabeth S. Menkin discusses "Last Hours of Living." Both take place 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospital Auditorium.

*Cardiac Health for Women. Dr. Ada Koransky offers updates on the latest treatments for women, the differences between men and women and the benefits and drawbacks of hormone replacement therapy. Registered nurse Karen Wolf from Good Samaritan's Cardiac Rehabilitation Center will also discuss stress factors. The program takes place on Feb. 27, from 7-9 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospital Auditorium.

*Blood Pressure Screening. Free blood pressure screenings are available to senior citizens on Feb. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the hospital's main lobby.
