Ronnie Lott enters football hall of fame

Cupertino's population of pro football hall-of-famers increased by one on Jan. 29, when former San Francisco 49er Ronnie Lott and two other former 49ers were admitted as part of the hall's Class of 2000.

"It was a big thrill to be there and hear them call my name," Lott told The Courier.

Lott, who lives in Cupertino with his wife, Karen, and their three children, graduated from the University of Southern California and played for the 49ers from 1981 to 90, before moving on to play for the Los Angeles Raiders and New York Jets. Lott played in four Superbowls with the 49ers and ten ProBowls.

Lott now works as an on-air commentator for Fox Sports. He was one of five players inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, this year. Lott's longtime friend and former 49er quarterback Joe Montana also received the honor this year. Since 1970, a total of 204 players have been inducted into the hall of fame.
