Sweet Adelines offer singing valentines

    Moviegoers encounter a sad ending

    By Jeff Kearns

A couple exiting The Oaks Theater on Stevens Creek Boulevard about 9:35 p.m. on Jan. 30 were treated to a rather unhappy ending when they interrupted two men burglarizing their Chevy Blazer in the north lot of the shopping center.

When the couple approached the car, two men jumped out and told them to stay back. One of the men had a knife with a four-inch blade, and the couple quickly backed away, said Sgt. John Hirokawa, spokesman for the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department.

The two men then got into a cream or ivory-colored sport-utility vehicle and left northbound on Mary Avenue. A sheriff's report said that, as they fled, the suspects also tried to run over the couple as they fled.

The men reportedly made off with a stereo and speakers from the vehicle. The burglars had disabled the truck's alarm and were in the process of stealing the radio from the Blazer when the owners surprised them.

Hirokawa said the two men may also be responsible for about nine similar car stereo burglaries in apartment complexes on Valley Green Drive earlier that night.

One suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 20-years-old, 5-feet 5-inches tall, 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. The other suspect is also described as a Hispanic man, 20-years-old, 5-feet 5-inches tall, 155 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff's detectives at 408.867.9715.
