Youth roller hockey

The Northwest YMCA is currently holding registration for its youth roller hockey league season.

The league is open to boys and girls in grades K-8, and the season runs April 11-June 13. Games are played on Saturdays with a one-hour practice to be held on a weekday evening. The cost is $65 per player, plus a $20 membership to the YMCA.

The league stresses fundamentals. No scores or standings are kept, and every player is guaranteed to play one full period per game.

In addition, the YMCA offers a peewee floor hockey instructional program for boys and girls ages 3-5. Peewee hockey is conducted in a class format, and classes begin April 11. The cost is $65 per player.

The league also needs volunteer coaches and paid officials for the coming season. No experience is necessary, and the YMCA will provide an extensive training program for each position. Officials are paid $6-$7 per hour.

For more information on the YMCA hockey program, call Matt Klock at 257-7160, ext. 19.
