    Friends of the Library sale

    Friends of the Library is holding the first of three annual book sales Feb. 16 and 17 to benefit the Cupertino Library. Sales raise money for programs and equipment with a special emphasis on services for children. Donations of books in good condition are always welcome and can be deposited in the Friends bin near the checkout desk in the lobby. Applications are available at the checkout counter for those wanting to become members of Friends of the Library.

    Feb. 16 book sale hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Feb. 17 from noon to 3 p.m.

    Three De Anza students participate in Cinequest

    San Jose-based Cinequest is holding its annual film festival Feb. 21 through March 3 at Camera 3 Cinemas. Three De Anza College student filmmakers are competing in Cinequest's Student Short Competition. Marion Gothier's short film is titled Lunch; John Gutierrez's film is Middle Grey; and Jason Schachat's film is called Golf Course High Kick of Death. All three films can be seen on Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. and Feb. 26 at 9:45 p.m. For more information, call the publicity phone at 408.995.5713.

    St. Joseph holds Chinese New Year celebration

    St. Joseph of Cupertino is celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year with a traditional Chinese Mass Feb. 24 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., with a reception immediately following. Father Greg Kimm will lead a traditional service with incense burning and Chinese gongs. There will be a line dance, food and Chinese entertainment at the reception. People attending are encouraged to bring ethnic finger foods to share with one another.

    Riverdance returns to Flint

    The original international phenomenon, Riverdance-The Show, will return to the Flint Center for eight performances from Feb. 12 to Feb. 17. Riverdance is a celebration of Irish music, song and dance that focuses on the evolution of Irish dance, as well as its similarities with, and influences on, other cultures.

    Home Depot offers workshops

    The Home Depot stores located throughout the area will offer free home improvement clinics every Saturday and Sunday in February. Experienced Home Depot associates will cover step-by-step instructions related to each project. The clinics are: "How to plant bulbs and add color to your garden" at 9 a.m.; "How to Measure and Install Window Treatments" at 10 a.m.; "Install ceramic tile" at 11 a.m.; "How to design and install closet organization" at 1 p.m.; and "Understanding water filters/reverse osmosis" at 2 p.m.
