Curb your dogs
On Jan. 28, at approximately 5:l5 p.m., while riding my horse Beamer near the Picchetti Ranch in Cupertino, I was viciously attacked by two large Rottweiler dogs.
The dogs lunged aggressively at Beamer, clearly trying to maul or even kill us. One dog, positioned in front of us, aimed for Beamer's face and throat, while the other dog concentrated on his hindquarters. Beamer reared, bucked and spun around, trying to fend the dogs off. I was terrified.
Beamer kicked one dog in the left front leg, immobilizing him, while the other dog continued its vicious attack. Screaming for the dogs to get away, I pleaded with the owners (a couple in their mid-to-late 30s) to control their pets. They stood dumbfounded, making no physical attempt to retrieve the remaining dog.
Finally, the man hesitantly grabbed the dog's leash, pulling him away. In shock, my first instinct was to get as far from the dogs as possible. Without saying a word, the couple walked up a hill and out of sight.
After I felt secure, I realized that I had not gotten the owners' name or license plate number, leaving me with only sketchy physical descriptions. I am overcome with guilt for not getting any additional information, and am petrified that these dogs will seriously injure or even kill someone else.
We were extremely lucky to survive this horrific incident, but the next person might not be so lucky. I am asking for help in finding the owners of these dogs, to not only take responsibility for my outstanding veterinary bill, but also face proper punishment from authorities, as the Picchetti Ranch does not allow dogs.
