Sheriff's Report

The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.

Burglary--Feb. 4, 5 p.m., 20300 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. Between Feb. 1 and Feb. 4, someone broke into two different maintenance storage areas and took approximately $10,000 worth of Internet equipment. The building was under construction and accessible to anyone.

Possession of grenade--Feb. 10, 12:21 a.m., corner of Wolfe and Homestead roads. During a traffic stop, a suspect was arrested for displaying symptoms of stimulant usage. As part of the arrest, the officer searched the suspect's truck and found a 4-inch by 2-inch explosive device wrapped in electrical tape with a fuse attached to it. The suspect admitted to making the device.

Commercial burglary--Feb. 10, 2:40 a.m., 19600 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. Unknown suspects threw a large rock at a storefront window, breaking it. The suspects entered the store through the window. When the alarm sounded, they fled.

Resisting, delaying, obstructing a peace officer--Feb. 11, 8:24 a.m., corner of Tilson and Stern avenues. An officer signaled a car to pull over for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver parked the car, got out and locked the door. He proceeded to walk away at a fast pace. The officer pursued the driver and had to forcibly pull him back to the patrol car. The driver was searched for weapons and forcibly handcuffed.

Assault with a deadly weapon--Feb. 11, 1:30 p.m., 21200 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. A suspect was caught on videotape taking money from the tip jar of a coffee shop. The victim, who knew the suspect, telephoned him and demanded he return the money. The suspect returned to the shop and began swinging with his fists at the victim. The two argued. At one point a steel club fell from the suspect's pocket, he picked it up and he began swinging it at the victim without hitting him.

Vehicle burglary--Feb. 11, 9:30 p.m., 10300 block of Bubb Road. A woman returned to her car to find one of the windows smashed. The purse she had left on the floor of the car was gone. She had money, credit cards and jewelry inside the purse.
