Dolphins in CYSA

The De Anza Dolphins, a boys' under-14 Demling soccer team, advanced to the semi-finals of the California State Association Cup tournament by winning the sectional title.

The Dolphins, who qualified for the State Cup in a tournament last December, edged Redding 1-0 in the sectional finals on a goal by Ryan Katz. Defenders Dustin Realini, Garrett Ince and Nick Christian and goalkeeper Paul Niedemier helped hold Redding scoreless to preserve the win, and the title.

The De Anza squad had opened the sectionals with a tight 1-0 win over the Folsom Heat. Katz scored the lone goal, and Realini, Ince and Christian starred defensively.

In second-round action, Realini scored on a penalty kick in the final minutes of play to help the Dolphins pull out an important 3-3 tie against the Stockton Aquilas.

The Dolphins turned back the Selma GTO Strikers of Fresno 2-0 in the final round-robin game. Katz and Brian Ketner each scored goals for the champs, and Nick Epindencio, Ben Guthrie and Michael Yee controlled the midfield.
