    Water district changes treating

On March 5, 2001, the Santa Clara Valley Water District will temporarily change the method uses to treat the water it supplies to the California Water Service Company's Los Altos District. For approximately two weeks, SCVWD will switch to free chlorine disinfection as part of its annual water distribution system maintenance. Customers might notice a smell or taste of chlorine in the water, but this can be reduced by refrigerating the water overnight. Cal Water's Los Altos District provides water to 57,000 customers in Los Altos, parts of Cupertino, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View and Sunnyvale. Customers who have questions may call 650.917.0152.

City accepting nominations for CREST Award

The city of Cupertino will accept nominations for its annual CREST Award, given to outstanding community volunteers, until March 14. CREST stands for Cupertino Recognizes Extra Steps Taken, and the award honors up to 10 volunteers, who have made significant contributions to the Cupertino community during the past year. The awards will be distributed during a ceremony at the Quinlan Community Center on May 17. Nomination forms are available at Cupertino City Hall, the Cupertino Library, the community center, and the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce. Nominations go to a committee made up of representatives from each of the city's advisory boards, who then pick the recipients. Call the city's public information office at 408.777.3262 for more information.
