    Sheriff's Report


    The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's westside substation

    Petty Theft--Jan. 29, 3:50 p.m., 20800 block of Homestead Road. The victim left two checks in the mail outside in the mailbox for pickup by the mail carrier. The victim was not aware of the theft until notified by the bank. The suspect had cashed the check after changing the original name on the "pay to" line.

    Petty Theft--Jan. 29, 2:35 p.m., 10900 N. Tantau Avenue, Compaq Computers. The victim reported that he had placed his cell-phone on his desk when he arrived for work. When he got ready to go home, the phone was gone. His office door is always open.

    Debit Card Fraud--Jan. 29, 8:30 a.m., 10900 block of Oaktree Drive. An unknown suspect used the victim's debit card to make an unauthorized purchase in the amount of $2,635.81 in Tokyo, Japan. The victim said the last time he was in Japan was in 1977. The suspect is still at large.

    Armed Robbery--Jan. 28, 8:51 p.m., 10700 block of S. De Anza Boulevard. The subject entered the restaurant and held the two employees behind the counter at gun point. The robber and the employees couldn't communicate because of language differences, but the suspect was still able to steal $400 in cash from two drawers, disable the telephone and force the employees into a freezer. The subject wore all black and a black ski mask with eye cut-outs.
