    Youth symphony celebrates 50th anniversary with concert performance

    The California Youth Symphony, conducted by Maestro Leo Eylar, will present a special gala concert celebrating its 50th anniversary on March 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the Flint Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. The concert will feature the world premiere of Eylar's Tonescapes, which CYS has commissioned especially for this event. There will also be 18 Cupertino musicians in the performance.

    Tickets are $12 general and $6 students and seniors and are available at the door or by phone at 650.325.6666.

    Senior center celebrates Chinese New Year

    On Feb. 28, noon to 1 p.m., the Cupertino Senior center will hold a Chinese New Year luncheon. The celebration will include Asian food, dance performances, costumes on display and other entertainment, and is sponsored by the Changing Demographics committee.

    The fee is $6. The senior center is located at 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd. For more information, call 408.777.3150.

    Flint Center hosts barbershop quartet

    The Garden City Chorus, representing the San Jose chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, will present a barbershop harmony show on March 2. The show will feature an internationally acclaimed quartet from Los Angeles called Gotcha! Four Cupertino residents sing in the Garden City Chorus: Joe Cleaver, Bill Gates, Mark Hildebrand and Ken Yuen.

    The performances are a matinee at 2 p.m. and an evening show at 8 p.m. The shows are at the Flint Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. For more information and tickets, call 408.235.9744 or visit www.sjchorus.org.

    Children's Musical Theater presents the musical 'Honk'

    The Children's Musical Theater will hold performances of the musical Honk Feb. 28 through March 3 at the Montgomery Theater, 2918 S. Market St., San Jose. Honk is the musical telling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling. Cupertino resident Megan Choate will appear in the musical as one of the ducklings.
