Sheriff's Report

The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the Sheriff's Westside Substation.

Insufficient funds for checks--Feb. 27, 12:45 p.m., 20100 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. A man purchased furniture for $2,374 from a store using two checks. Both checks were returned by the bank due to insufficient funds. The store contacted the suspect, who agreed to make good on the checks. Since then he has made no effort to repay the store.

Grand theft--Feb. 27 and 28, 1300 block of S. De Anza Boulevard. Over a two-night period suspects entered a nursery and stole plants, statues, redwood pots and metal artwork. The first night, $1,436 worth of items was stolen.

Under the influence--March 1, 3:55 a.m., corner of De Anza Boulevard and Valley Green Drive. The deputy responded to a report of a possible DUI driver who stopped at a gas station. On contact, the deputy found two suspects in the car who appeared to be under the influence. The first suspect admitted to having used heroin and crank. The second suspect admitted to using heroin. Both suspects were arrested and booked into jail.

Vandalism--March 2, 10 p.m., 20300 block of Clifden Way. A woman parked her car on the street. The next day she found scratch marks in the paint starting from the left fender and going all the way around the vehicle to the right fender. She had no idea who made the scratches.

Attempted grand theft--Feb. 27, 2 p.m., 10200 block of Alhambra Avenue. Suspects contacted an elderly victim by phone and tried to entice her to pay money to invest in a lottery scheme.

Petty theft--March 3, 4 p.m., 21250 Stevens Creek Boulevard. A De Anza College student reported that while she was in class, someone entered her car and stole a cell phone and a backpack. The woman said she thought she had locked her car, but there was no evidence of forced entry.
