Cupertino martial artists travel to Rio
Spring in Rio? Sounds like the trip of a lifetime.
And that's just the trip that members of the Cupertino Kung Fu Club will take when they travel to Rio de Janeiro to compete in the Chinese martial arts of Tai-Chi and Shuai-Chiao at the first Pan-American Shuai-Chiao/Kung Fu Tournament.
Cupertino club members making the trip to Brazil for the March 31-April 1 competition will be Eric Brooks, Jan-Yu Weng, Leo Wong, She-Peng Weng and Emeric Chen.
The Cupertino Kung Fu Club, under the leadership of club president Dr. Chi-Hsiu Weng, has been competing internationally since 1992. The club has won gold medals in both Paris and Beijing. Club member Lidia Marchioni won a silver medal last fall at the Chun Hwa Cup International Tai-Chi Championships. Marchioni will serve as a coach in Brazil.
Dr. Weng will also be teaching some of South America's leading martial artists in a Tai-Chi and Shuai-Chiao seminar the weekend of the tournament. He will conduct another seminar in Sao Paulo at the request of the president of the Sao Paulo Military and Police Physical Education Academy.
