City Council passes noise ordinances
The Cupertino City Council passed an amended noise ordinance on March 5, which adds new definitions for construction activities, puts new time limits on work during weekends and prohibits construction other than street repairs on holidays and at night.
The amendments state that vehicle pick ups and delivery of construction materials or demolition debris now constitutes construction activities. The revised ordinance also sets the work hours for the weekend at 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. The new ordinance makes violation of these regulations a misdemeanor.
Committee hearing set for March 27
The County of Santa Clara Redistricting Committee will hold a public hearing March 21 at 7 p.m. on county supervisorial districts. The county must redraw legislative boundaries every 10 years to reflect population changes. The county requests public involvement to ensure that cities and communities of interest are not unnecessarily divided between multiple districts at the Quinlan Community Center at 10185 N. Stelling Road in Cupertino.
Council looks at campaign rules
The city council reviewed the city's campaign regulations in preparation for the upcoming November elections, in which three council seats are up for grabs. Council members decided to leave most of the regulations in place; however, they changed the cutoff for reporting campaign contributions, setting the filing deadline for five days prior to an election.
The $20,000 campaign limit remains in place, as does the $100 cap on the amount of money individuals and organizations can make to a campaign. Candidates must also stop accepting funds 14 days before an election.
