Soccer tryouts

The MVLA Griffins, an under-13 girls' soccer team in the Ambrozino League, will hold tryouts for the upcoming season on March 21-22, 10 a.m.-noon each day, at Santa Rita School on Los Altos Ave. in Los Altos. The team is looking for committed soccer players born after Aug. 1, 1985. Call Dave at 650/949-2770.

Youth roller hockey

The Northwest YMCA is currently holding registration for its youth roller hockey league season.

The league is open to boys and girls in grades K-8, and the season runs April 11-June 13. Games are played on Saturdays with a one-hour practice to be held on a weekday evening. The cost is $65 per player, plus a $20 membership to the YMCA.

The league stresses fundamentals. Every player is guaranteed to play one full period per game.

In addition, the YMCA offers a peewee floor hockey instructional program for boys and girls ages 3-5. Peewee hockey is conducted in a class format, and classes begin April 11. The cost is $65 per player.

The league also needs volunteer coaches and paid officials for the coming season. No experience is necessary, and the YMCA will provide an extensive training program for each position. Officials are paid $6-$7 per hour.

Football sign-ups

The Cupertino-Sunnyvale Pop Warner football organization will hold sign-ups for players ages 7-15 on April 18 and May 16, 9 a.m.-noon each day, at Fair Oaks Park in Sunnyvale. Call 737-9654.

Volleyvan in Los Gatos

The USA Volleyball Volleyvan will stop off at Los Gatos High School on March 21 for a day of free clinics for coaches and players.

The coaches clinic will run from noon-1 p.m. with the players clinic set for 1-4 p.m. Boys and girls ages 7-18 of all ability levels are welcome to attend the clinic.

The van is currently touring the country offering the free volleyball clinics. The staff from USA Volleyball will offer the instruction.
