FUHSD in search of new superintendent
The Fremont Union High School District is holding an open forum to gather input on the characteristics that the district should be looking for in its search for a new superintendent. Members of the community served by the district are invited to attend the forum, which will be held March 20 at 8:30 p.m. in the board room at the Educational Services Center, located at 589 W. Fremont Ave. in Sunnyvale.
Positions open on planning commission
The city of Cupertino is accepting applications to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the planning commission for a term that expires on January 15, 2005. The commission advises the city council on land use issues, general plans, zoning and subdivisions.
Meetings are held in the evenings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at city hall in the council chamber. Those interested must be Cupertino residents, and the deadline for applications is May 7 with city council conducting interviews on May 13. Big Bunny Fun Run coming March 30
The Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department is holding its annual Big Bunny Fun Run March 30 for participants of all ages. The 5K (3.1 miles) run or the 1.5-mile walk begins and ends at city hall with a starting time of 9 a.m., and awards will be given to the top finishers. FUHSD crab feed
The Fremont Union High Schools Foundation is partnering with the Rotary Club of Cupertino and the Foothill-De Anza Colleges Foundation for a Crab Feed fundraising event April 5 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at De Anza College, Hinson Campus Center. The proceeds will be used to provide the Digital Divide support for the FUHSD.
Tickets are $30 per person which includes parking, and are available at the FUHSD Educational Services Center, at 589 W. Fremont Ave. Call 408.447.6741.
'Spirit of America' concert
Music and song from all five high schools in the Fremont Union High School District will be performed March 24 at the Flint Center. The "Spirit of America" concert will feature more than 1,000 students performing in combined choir, concert band, orchestra and symphonic band. Those interested can buy general admission seats no assigned seats for $10 each by calling Cindy McArthur at 408.522.2206.
Senior center presents chamber choir on March 25
The Cupertino Senior Center presents the Marlborough Chamber Choir March 25 from 3 to 4 p.m. While under the direction of conductor Timothy Bruneau for the past 15 years, the choir has performed in concerts and on recordings with such diverse artists as mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, vocalist Maureen McGovern and rock singer Rod Stewart. The choir is an ensemble of 25 young women in grades 10 through 12 who were chosen through audition.
