    Tax-time tutoring

There's help for taxpayers frustrated by the intricacies of IRS forms.

The IRS will be holding a "Problem Solving Day" this Saturday, March 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the agency's downtown San Jose office, 55 S. Market Street, First Floor.

Taxpayers with long-standing tax problems are encouraged to meet face-to-face with IRS employees to help iron out any problems.

Anyone who wants to take advantage of the offer should call 408.817.6863 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to schedule an appointment. Requests may also be faxed to 408.817.6551. The IRS says taxpayers who attend the session should bring any relevant documents or correspondence when they show up.

County library system averts union lawsuit

Santa Clara County says it has avoided a threatened lawsuit by reaching an agreement with temporary workers. Members of Service Employees International Union Local 715 dropped their suit against the county library system March 15 after the county reportedly agreed to make permanent employees out of several long-term temporary employees. That makes those newly-permanent employees eligible for normal benefits packages.
