The Cupertino CourierNews BriefsChamber announces its new director The Cupertino Chamber of Commerce announced it has hired a woman from the San Jose-Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce to be its new executive director. Linda Asbury starts April 1, replacing outgoing director John Statton, who is now a Cupertino city councilman. Statton received his law degree and passed the state bar exam last year, and he plans to pursue other professional interests. Asbury has 13 years of experience with the Santa Cruz, Napa, Los Gatos and San Jose Chambers of Commerce. She said she is very strong on membership relations; she was responsible for membership development and membership services at the San Jose Chamber. "I see the need for Chambers to be well-run, professionally operated businesses in their own right," she said in the Cupertino Chamber's newsletter. "We are integral parts of the business community, and our members have a right to expect an efficient operation." Asbury has also been very active in community service in the cities she has worked. Women's crisis and shelter services, a counseling support line, a homeless resource group and serving mentally ill children are just some of the activities in which she has been involved. "If community needs are not taken care of, someone pays, and often it is the business community," she said.
