Citizen tips lead to arrests in burglaries

    Sheriff's Report

The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.

Burglary, conspiracy--March 14, 5:26 p.m., Target store, 20745 Stevens Creek Blvd. A woman met another woman inside the store and both filled their shopping carts with the same items. The second woman left the store after paying for her cartload of clothes and other merchandise. She then re-entered the store and helped the first woman remove the anti-theft tags from her merchandise, and gave her the receipt from her purchase of the same items. The first woman left with her merchandise and was then detained by store security, arrested by deputies and booked into jail. The second woman was not arrested.

Assault with a deadly weapon--March 15, 5 p.m., De Anza College, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. A 21-year-old San Jose man was studying in the library when another man came up behind him and smashed a glass bottle over his head. The victim chased the suspect out of the library and into the lobby of another campus building, where he started hitting the suspect. Witnesses pulled the victim away from the suspect, who they said was screaming: "I'm sorry! I thought you were someone else!" The suspect fled when campus security arrived, and was never found. The victim sustained major lacerations to his head and hands.

Vehicle burglary--March 16, 11:30 a.m., De Anza College, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. A Mountain View woman parked her car in a lot and left her keys in the trunk lock. When she returned, the car was gone. It was later found elsewhere in the same lot, but the woman's purse was missing from the trunk.

Residential burglary--March 17, 9:20 p.m., 19200 block of Phil Lane. A family returned from dinner and found about $200 had been taken from their house. The suspect entered by removing a screen from a window, then pulling the unlocked window open.
