    Mustangs win

The Homestead boys volleyball team won its only match last week, beating Leland in nonleague play to improve to 10-0 for the year.

Aaron Mansfield's 14 kills helped Homestead to the 15-2, 15-8, 15-10 win over the Chargers.

    CCS scholastic champs

They may not have been any Central Coast Section championships on the field or on the mat this winter, but some athletes at both Lynbrook and Fremont were CCS champs nonetheless--in the classroom.

The Lynbrook wrestling team and the Fremont girls soccer team were champions in the CCS Scholastic competition for the 2000 winter season.

The CCS recognizes the varsity team in each sport with the highest collective grade point average, and presents each school with a team trophy and all of the team members with individual certificates.

Lynbrook won the wrestling title with a collective GPA of 3.5421 and Fremont took the girls soccer crown with an impressive 3.6120 mark.

The Vikings were first in wrestling, but that was just one of four areas where Lynbrook excelled this winter. The Vikes were fourth in girls soccer (3.5571), sixth in boys basketball (3.2666) and sixth in boys soccer (3.3805).

Saratoga also showed well in the competition. The Falcons were second in girls basketball (3.7595) and fifth in wrestling (3.2391).

The King's Academy ended up third in boys basketball (3.4912) and Monta Vista nailed fifth place in boys soccer (3.3821).

    Hockey coach needed

Willow Glen head varsity field hockey coach Peggy Booth is looking for a junior varsity coach for the fall season. For more information, call Booth at 408.535.6330.
