Students get a crash course on drunken driving

Monta Vista High School students became intimately involved with the effects of alcohol and driving

The students at Monta Vista High School walked onto the track by the football field not knowing exactly what lay in store for them under the lumpy gray tarp on the field. When the students had all taken their seats, the tarp lifted, revealing two mangled cars, one on top of the other, and four of their peers twisted around the wreckage. Fortunately, the gruesome scene wasn't a real accident, but the first part of a theatrical lesson in the perils of drinking and driving. The crash scene made up the first day of a two-day program called "Every Fifteen Minutes," which represents the rate at which someone in the United States dies as a result of an alcohol-related auto collision.   More
