Cupertino provides citizens with earthquake info
Because April is California Earthquake Preparedness Month, Cupertino is providing resources for residents who need earthquake safety information. The Cupertino Scene website has assembled a list of sites with preparedness information, including the American Red Cross, the Community Preparedness Website Project and the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
Preparedness information will be on display this month in the lobby of the Quinlan Center. For further information on classes or preparedness, click on the Emergency Preparedness link at www.cupertino.org, or contact Marsha Garcia at 408.777.3335. Registration forms are also available at the Quinlan Center, the Cupertino Library and city hall.
Community Congress meeting to feature General Plan
At the annual Community Congress, Cupertino residents will have an opportunity to discuss the General Plan, the city's blueprint for development. The congress will be held May 3, 3-8 p.m., at De Anza College's Hinson Center. Participants will work in facilitated discussion groups to reflect on new directions the city may take.
State law requires each jurisdiction to review its General Plan regularly. The last comprehensive review of Cupertino's General Plan took place in 1993.

Tournament for De Anza
Area golfers will have a shot at winning $1 million during a month-long hole-in-one qualifying round that will kick off the Cupertino Rotary Club's annual benefit golf tournament, which is set for Saturday, May 4.
Up until the day of the tournament, interested golfers may show up to take a turn on the tee at Deep Cliff Golf Course, 10700 Clubhouse Lane in Cupertino, between 4 p.m. and sunset. The shot that lands closest to the hole each evening qualifies that golfer to shoot for a Million Dollar Hole-in-One prize during the tournament.
Coupons offering a free chance to qualify for the million-dollar competition are available in 20 different locations throughout Cupertino. The May 4 tournament will benefit the new Child Development and Education Center at De Anza College, scheduled for completion this fall.

Cherry Blossom Festival set to begin April 20
Spring marks the beginning of festivals, and Cupertino is kicking off the season by honoring its sister city of Toyokawa, Japan, with its 19th annual Cherry Blossom Festival. The event will be held at Memorial Park on April 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free.
Entertainment is taking place all day at the park amphitheater; Taiko groups, Japanese dance, martial arts and children's musical performances will be featured. Visitors can look through cultural exhibits, shop at arts and crafts booths, and visit the petting zoo and other children's activities while munching on a wide assortment of Japanese food and beverages.
The festival benefits the nonprofit Cupertino Sister City Committee, which promotes friendship and student exchange programs between the two cities. Parking is available at De Anza College, where all-day permits are available for $2 from machines that require quarters.
