    Teddy bears get checkups

    West Valley Presbyterian Church is inviting kids to have their teddy bears examined by a staff of real doctors and nurses at the church's fifth annual Teddy Bear Fair on May 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Each bear will receive an official Well Bear certificate signed by the attending physician. Kids who don't have a teddy bear can obtain one at the fair's "Adopt-a-Bear Agency." More than 200 bears were adopted at last year's fair. The fair will also feature a teddy bear museum, games and attractions. A hot dog/chips/soda lunch is available for $1. The church is located at 6191 Bollinger Rd. in Cupertino.     Vision New America set to hold spring gala on May 11

    Vision New America, a nonprofit organization that promotes civic participation in Asian American communities, will introduce its Summer 2002 class of public policy interns at the organization's annual spring gala on May 11. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norm Mineta is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. Vision New America's selection committee chose its top candidates for their various communication skills. The gala will take place at the Westin Santa Clara, 5101 Great America Pkwy. Tickets are $50. For more information, call 408.241.4505.
