    De Anza College Measure E meeting

    De Anza College will hold an informational meeting on May 22 that will address Measure E, a bond approved by voters in November 1999 to provide funds for campus construction and renovation. Local residents and the college community are invited to attend.

    The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at De Anza's Hinson Campus Center, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino. For more information, call 408.864.8936.


    Children's reading programs in June

    The Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department is once again offering its popular series of reading programs. Developed for children in preschool through third grade, the programs focus on phonics and comprehension skills. The programs for children in fourth through eleventh grade focus on achieving substantial gains in reading comprehension, speed, vocabulary and study skills. There is also a program offered for high school seniors, college students and adults.

    The programs will meet once each week for five weeks. One set of classes will begin the weeks of June 17 and another the week of July 22. Tuition is $269 per student.

    More needed for teen commission

    The city of Cupertino is seeking more applicantsfor its teen commission. The commission advises the city council and parks and recreation department on issues of concern toteens. Applicants must be Cupertino residents. The commission will be comprised of 13 members, who must be in eighth through twelfth grade during their term.

    Applications are available at city hall, the Quinlan Community Center or on the city's website at www.cupertino.org/teens. Applications are accepted at the city clerk's office, located in city hall at 10300 Torre Ave. The deadline is May 23 at 5:30 p.m.
