Circus comes to school
By MELISSA MATCHAK
The most elaborate circus to be held at Stevens Creek Elementary School in the five years that the school has held them arrived on May 25. With miniature horses, clowns, gymnasts, a unicycle rider, popcorn vendors and more, 77 sixth grade students performed in the circus they created.
Lynne Capener, the music teacher at the school for the past 13 years, said she wanted to do something interesting for the students not related to the curriculum. Capener added her students have put on five circuses in the past eight years, but this is the first they have done in several years, as well as the most elaborate.

"It was up to the students to get their acts together, to do whatever they signed up for," Capener said. "The kids were very excited, and have been super to work with."
The circus also included circus-related music, with about three one-minute acts in between each song. Dancers accompanied the final song, along with a balloon drop for the grand finale. The circus, held on the school playground, was performed under a tarp and parachute rigged from a building to the basketball hoops. Capener said due to the increase in students at the school, that a bigger venue was necessary. She said circuses past have been held on the school's indoor stage.
