Child safety fair comes to Vallco

Several local organizations have come together to sponsor the first annual Cupertino Child Safety Fair at Vallco Fashion Park on Aug. 25, from 10 am to 3 pm. The Santa Clara County Office of the Sheriff, The city of Cupertino, State Farm Insurance and the Santa Clara/San Mateo Safe Kids Coalition will sponsor the day's events, which will include information sessions and safety checks for skates, bikes and car seats. To make a reservation for a safety inspection, call Sergeant Karen Burgess at 408.777.3173. Inspectors request that you bring instruction manuals to aid them in their evaluation.

Four file for school seat, even though deadline extended

Four candidates have filed their papers in the race for a seat on the Cupertino Union School District's Board of Education. However, because one of the incumbents, Barbara Fielden, has not yet filed her papers, the deadline has extended to Aug. 16. Two other incumbents, Pearl Cheng and Ben Liao, have turned in their papers, as well as two community members, George Tyson and John Claras. There are three long-term seats and on short-term seat open during this campaign.
