Rotary barbecue
The Rotary Club of Cupertino will host an old-fashioned club barbecue for Rotary members, spouses and friends, as well as prospective members. The barbecue, which will feature ethnic foods prepared by Rotary members, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Blackberry Farm. International Rotarian Juan Forster, Godfather of Rotary's Village Bank program in Nicaragua and Guatemala, will give a brief presentation. The menu includes Chinese, German, Italian and Japanese delicacies, and the Cupertino Rotary Bartenders will provide bar service. The cost is $20 for the barbecue. For more information, call the Cupertino Rotary Club at 408.446.9919.
History of Cupertino
The Cupertino Historical Museum Gallery presents the exhibit To have and to hold: The story of Cupertino from the museum's collection. Now through the end of August, visitors can enjoy the exhibit, which is based on the premise that each person has a story to tell. For more information about the exhibit or Cupertino's history, call the Cupertino Historical Society at 408.973.1495.
Cupertino time capsule
This isn't just another time capsule to be buried underground for 100 years. The Cupertino Digital Time Capsule is an ongoing project that was proposed by Mayor John Statton in his State of the City speech. Statton said he would like to create a "community memory of this year." The digital time capsule includes several sections, including "people" and "events and festivals." Residents of Cupertino can contribute their family's history or pictures of their group at special events for the time capsule. The time capsule crew is now asking for contributions for a new section, "community voices." Stories, family histories, essays or photographs are welcome from individuals, families, companies, schools and organizations of all kind. Only emailed information and digital photographs can be accepted. Email must be limited to 200 words and two photographs in JPEG format. For more information about the Cupertino Digital Time Capsule and how to contribute, contact the City Clerk's office at 408.777.3223 or send email to timecapsule@cupertino.org.
Summer concert series
Relax with friends and family every Thursday night between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. while enjoying the sounds of a variety of bands from around the Bay. Ongoing through Aug. 24 in Memorial Park, the summer concert series is free, and visitors should feel free to bring a picnic dinner. The concert Aug. 17 will feature the Latin rock and jazz sounds of Kool Kat, and the Tony Miles Band will perform reggae, blues and funk on Aug. 24. For more information, call 408.777.3120.
