City officials want more residents on their feet--meaning out of their cars--to ease the sometimes nasty congestion at the city's worst intersections. Volunteers, officials and paid consultants are working on plans that will help residents do just that. Having successfully completed a bicycle plan last year to increase ridership in the city, BPAC members are turning their attention to a pedestrian plan. Ideas like supervised group walking programs for school children, better signals at intersections, more sidewalks and crosswalks and a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Highway 280 at Mary Avenue are part of the study.
