Cupertino soccer has grown in leaps and bounds in the last 25 years, mushrooming from 255 players to the present whopping 850 young athletes. Saturday, Sept.11, was American Youth Soccer Organization's kick off for its 25th year of soccer in Cupertino. The event turns out to be an all-day party, taking over all three fields and hosting dozens of tournament-style games. The giant kick-off celebration drew hundreds of colorfully decked-out players, red-shirted AYSO board members and, of course, hordes of proud parents and siblings. Adults, who, during the work week, moonlight as doctors, consultants and computer programmers, all seem to drop the titles and become "ex-soccer players" and "soccer-moms" the moment their feet touch the field. The attitude is festive and joyous, and the weather seems happy to oblige.
