    Sheriff's Report

The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.

Vehicle Burglary--Oct. 28, 3:40 a.m., 10200 block of Richwood Drive. A resident was awakened by his car alarm and went outside to check his Chevy Blazer. He didn't see anything, his car was locked, and he went back to bed. In the morning, he found his laptop bag and laptop were gone, along with various books and papers, from the back seat. Someone apparently broke into the car by jamming a screwdriver into the passenger door. Everything stolen, except the laptop, was reported found the next day on E. Estates Drive. Also during that night in the same area, a screwdriver was used to break into a Jetta on Glenview Drive. That car's radio and some other personal items were reported stolen.

Rubber checkmate--Oct. 29, 1:49 p.m., Washington Mutual Bank, 10200 block of S. De Anza Blvd. Deputies arrested a man for burglary, passing a worthless check, attempted grand theft and possession of stolen property after he tried to cash a bad check for $2,125 at the bank. The man also allegedly made several other transactions on his account that day at other area Washington Mutual banks in Santa Cruz, Capitola and Los Gatos, each of which was for more than $2,000.

Beer Heist--Oct. 29, 6:10 p.m., Bruschettas Pizza, 10600 block of S. Foothill Road. Suspects entered the restroom through an unlocked door at the rear and stole a half-keg of beer.

Burglary--Oct. 29, 10:46 p.m., 7-Eleven store on 21400 block of McClellan Road. Unidentified suspect entered 7-Eleven store, walked up to checkout counter, jumped over it, grabbed a fistful of lottery tickets and took off. The same suspect was spotted minutes before casing another convenience store nearby.

Poop tossing--Oct. 29, 22400 block of Palm Avenue. During the previous night, someone threw "a large amount of fecal matter" on the front door of a house for the second time in three months. The homeowner told deputies he's lived in the area for ten years and doesn't have any known enemies or grudges.
