The Cupertino CourierResidents are on the goCongratulations to our own Bill and Shari Kerr on winning the Rotary trip to Munich in 1999. They are sooo deserving of this--we can't wait till they send us a postcard from the local hofbrau haus. . . . Pat and Jim Jackson just returned from three glorious weeks in Europe. This was to be their 25th anniversary present to each other--only it took how many years to find time for a three-week vacation? . . . Mayor Michael Chang is leading an eight-day delegation to Taiwan to promote a "friendship city" in Hsin Chu. Among the delegation of 40 locals are Lucille and Rod Honig, Fremont Union High School District superintendent Joe Hamilton, planning commissioner Andrea Harris, Rotarian Dave Stearns, Cupertino Union School District board member, Barry Chang; and Fernando Chan. Good luck to all of you. . . . Update on our baby producers. Mary Black and her hubby, Steve, are proud parents of twin girls, Mary and Megan. Grandparents Barbara and Jim Black couldn't be happier. . . . Congratulations to Dave and Jeanie Kerr on their new son, Aaron Charles--and also to the grandparents. . . . Allan and Betty Bidwell were here recently for the 49ers game and journeyed on to Reno to take in the Irish Dancers along with Nicol Legan and her mom, Cynthia, Helen Lewis and stand-in Barb Koppel and her brother, Bob. Allan did try to demonstrate how to do the "jig.". . . John Hailey of Tandem Computers, a great representative of the company is moving on to Cisco Systems--we wish him our very best and he certainly will be missed. . . . Dick Lohmiller, Jim Walker and Kate Carlin are preparing for their upcoming sojourn to Ghana along with many other Rotarians from district 5170. They are part of the national immunization day to "kick polio out of Ghana." Nov. 7 is the day three million kids under the age of 5 will be immunized. We want a full report upon their return. Good job and have fun. . . . Rocking and rolling in Rocklin this weekend was Michelle Tripp, visiting old friends and perhaps looking at newer pastures?. . . Don Brown has journeyed to Florida for the ICMA Conference--where he can share ideas and do some serious bragging about what a wonderful city Cupertino is. . . .Bye-bye Verna Kaun! Verna and hubby Carl are moving south to San Diego, not by choice, by employment. We will all miss a great volunteer in our community. Last seen saying farewell at a luncheon at Canton Delights were Barbara Jones, Howard Bauman, Dean Skeels, Dorothy Stow, Mary Ellen Chell, Greg Jow and Linda Walker. . . . Don't miss the lively Citizen of the Year party for Don Allen. Hewlett-Packard is the venue for this awaited occasion. Don has been a member of this fair city for years and years. Some good stories should be circulating about the good old days. By the time you read this, the election will be over. May all of your favorite candidates and issues be winners. . . . Keep in touch.
