    Sheriff's Report

The following incidents were culled from reports filed by deputies at the sheriff's Westside Substation.

Sex offender with gun, no plate--Nov. 13, 8:30 a.m., Stevens Creek Boulevard at Blaney. A deputy pulled over a car for not having front license plates, only to find that the driver had a $15,000 warrant out for his arrest for failure to register as a sex offender. On top of (or beneath) that, a search of the car turned up a 9mm pistol under the driver's seat. Court records say the driver knew that he couldn't own or possess a firearm because he was a felon.

Conspiracy, Embezzlement--Nov. 15, 7:15 p.m., Mervyn's, 20700 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard. With an apparent accomplice working behind the cash register, two suspects walked up to the counter with about $1,100 worth of clothing and other merchandise. The suspect at the store rang up about half of the items using a credit card number from a previous transaction, and placed the rest of the items in bags as if they had been paid for. After the transaction was finished (and recorded by store security cameras), the two customers left the store. One was detained by store security and the other fled. All of the stolen merchandise was recovered.

Auto burglary--Nov. 15, 7 p.m., Macy's at Vallco Mall. A Sunnyvale woman who parked her Honda Civic in the west parking lot near Macy's in the morning returned in the evening to find that it had been broken into. Among other things, her car stereo and trunk-mounted CD-changer, both valued at about $600, were taken. There were no witnesses.

Vandalism--Nov. 19, 1 Results Way. Someone shot out four windows of the Honeywell/Measurex building with a pellet gun over the weekend of Nov. 12. Damage was estimated at about $2,000. No suspects were spotted.
