After the Sept. 11 attacks, bravery and courage have taken on a whole new level of meaning for 11-year-old Serena Lee. In fact, the heroic actions of firefighters, police officers and soldiers risking their lives to rebuild hope and protect America inspired Lee to compose A Challenge of Life—a color pencil drawing of parachuters—which received honorable mention at the eighth annual Growing Up Asian in America essay and art contest.
