Upcoming auditions set for young musicians on Feb. 9

The 50th annual Young Artist Award Auditions will take place on Feb. 9 at De Anza College from noon to 5:30 p.m. The San Jose Music Study Club, which sponsors the event, will present the winners in a concert on April 16 in San Jose. Applicants in the vocal, piano and instrumental categories must be between the ages of 18 and 30 as of the audition date. The awards for first, second and third place are $700, $550 and $450 respectively.

Residents can soon enjoy 'Friday night adventures'

At "Friday Night Adventures," children 6 to 11 years old can enjoy a multitude of activities, including playing games, doing crafts, cooking and watching movies.

Friday Night Adventures will take place from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 and March 28. The cost is $35 for Cupertino residents and $42 for nonresidents. Food, supplies and supervision will be provided. For more information, call the Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department at 408.777.3120.


City historical society holds lecture on
Filoli Center

The Cupertino Historical Society and Museum is offering the fourth lecture in its Gathering at the Crossroads series on Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will feature a slide presentation on the history and gardens of the Filoli Center by Grover Cleveland of the Filoli Speakers Bureau.

The event begins with a potluck at 6:30 p.m. in the Cupertino Room at the Quinlan Community Center. Participants are asked to bring a dish of their choice. The lecture is free for members and $3 for nonmembers.
