CUSD registration for 200304 year
The Cupertino Union School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 200304 school year Feb. 4 through 14. District parents whose children will be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 2003 may register at their neighborhood school during this period. Parents or guardians must provide verification of date of birth, complete immunization records and proof of residence. All kindergarten students must be registered at their neighborhood school before requesting open enrollment or an alternative program.
Open enrollment and alternative program registration for district residents will be held Feb. 1014 at the school of desired attendance. However, Kennedy Middle School will not accept open enrollment requests for the upcoming school year.

City searches to fill commission vacancies
The city of Cupertino is accepting applications for an unscheduled vacancy on the Cupertino Planning Commission that occurred when commissioner Marc Auerbach resigned. The term expires Jan. 15, 2005.
The commission consists of five members appointed by the council to overlapping four-year terms. The commission's primary function is to advise the city council on land-use matters.
The city is also accepting applications for an unscheduled vacancy on the city's fine arts commission that occurred when commissioner Barbara Phelps resigned. The term expires on Jan. 15, 2006.
The fine arts commission consists of seven members. Its mission is to foster, encourage and assist the realization,
preservation and advancement of fine arts for the benefit of Cupertino citizens.
Applicants must be Cupertino residents. The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. on Feb. 3, and the city council will conduct interviews in late February.

City to hold public meeting on Crossroads plan Jan. 22
City staff are holding a public input meeting to gather ideas on the Crossroads Area Streetscape Plan.
The Crossroads plan was designed to create a pedestrian-friendly shopping district at the historic shopping core of Cupertino, on Stevens Creek Boulevard between De Anza Boulevard and Stelling Road. Some of the essential elements of the plan include building a 20-foot-wide sidewalk and constructing new buildings closer to the street.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 in the reception room at the Cupertino Senior Center, 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd. For more information, contact the planning department at 408.777.3277.
Crab Feed event will come to Cupertino on Jan. 31
An all-you-can-eat Crab Feed will take place on Jan. 31 at St. Joseph of Cupertino parish hall, 10120 N. De Anza Blvd. Sponsored by St. Joseph of Cupertino School, the event will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m.
In addition to crabs, participants can enjoy salad, pasta, bread and beer. Tickets are $25 per person if purchased by Jan. 22 and $30 after that date.
