Email alert program for city merchants
The city of Cupertino and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office are teaming up to start an email community alert program for merchants.
Business owners will be able to learn about crime trends in the city and receive tips on how to avoid becoming a victim. The city is accepting preliminary sign-ups for the program.

De Anza Summer starts on June 30
De Anza College's six-week summer session will run from June 30 through Aug. 9. Tuition is still set at $7 per unit. Students can apply, register and pay for classes online at www.deanza.edu.
The college will accept applications starting on May 1. Registration will begin on June 9 for continuing students and June 23 for new and returning students. People can also register by phone at 408.777.9394. For more information, call 408.864.5300.
Council gives residents
time to discuss project
The public is invited to the council meeting May 19 meeting at 6:45 p.m. in the City Hall Council chambers at 10300 Torre Ave.
Residents can discuss various elements of the Civic Park Project (currently known as Town Center).
The project requires a use permit to demolish 16 office buildings and to construct three new office buildings; a permit to construct 19,135 square feet of retail commercial space, 217 residential units and a half acre park. The council will also review an exception to the Heart of the City height requirement from 36 to 45 feet.

Monta Vista grad honored at Chico
Monta Vista High School graduate Christopher Boucher, who is currently attending California State University, Chico, has become a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society. Boucher, who graduated from Monta Vista magna cum laude in 2000, was honored during a campus ceremony on April 23. He is also a member of Phi Thea Kappa.
